Rachel’s House Trust, based in Rangiora, North Canterbury, is a Non-Profit organization that is committed to the support of young parents. We aim to be a visible, approachable agency that is equipped to provide practical help, advice, advocacy, counselling, mentoring, and workshops, connect groups and material needs. The Trust offers a safe empowering environment where young vulnerable families can plan for their future with their babies.
Rachel’s House Trust (RHT) is a Non-Governmental service that began in 2008 as a full wrap around service in response to a need in the local community for accommodation and support for our pregnant teens. RHT works alongside other community organisations, complementing what is provided. The Trust assists and connects with young expectant mothers and provides ongoing support for young parents, and their children.
Mentoring & Connection
Mentoring is provided through trained volunteers who offer a relationship of stability and life experience.
Peer support is encouraged through our Playgroup and Connect group for young parents and their children.
We are extremely fortunate to have 'The Shed' available to our mothers.
People generously donate clothes from new born size right up to sizes 3-4. We even have clothe donations for our mothers do be blessed to!
Every fortnight at the playgroup mothers can look through some clothes and take what they need.
Counselling & Support
Our counsellors provide individual sessions exploring issues such as grief and loss, alcohol and drug issues and relationship issues.
We offer one to one crisis support, either in person or by phone.
Support and advice is provided when working with agencies such as CYFs and WINZ.
We provide information on a wide range of community services and Governmental agencies that are available to support specific needs and assist by providing baby items for expectant and new Mums from “The Shed”.
Parenting Courses & Long Term Care
We aim to strengthen young parent’s knowledge and ability by building on their skills and the desire to do the best for themselves and their children and to change the outcomes predicted against them by growing into mature, community minded families.
While care is offered while having a baby, the Trust's point of difference to other agencies is offering long term aftercare following having a baby. We remain alongside empowering young families to grow in stability for as long as is needed.
